CHEM 201 - Organic Chemistry I: A lecture-based course providing an introduction to the structure, nomenclature, classification, properties and reactions of the major functional groups of organic compounds. Examples of the syntheses and the reactions of the major functional groups will be given, supported by reaction mechanisms where appropriate.

Use of atomic theory developed in Chemistry 201 to examine the principles of periodic classification of the elements, thermodynamics, acids and bases, chemical equilibrium, reaction kinetics, coordination compounds.
